And again, requests a debate with President Bush over Iran's right to persue and acquire nuclear energy in the UN General Assembly.
From the NY Sun:
His intention to visit New York was reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency, which quoted the Presidential Office Media Department reporting him as saying, "We are ready for a debate with the Americans at the U.N. General Assembly" and that "the American side can even take part in the debate side by side with his advisors, and as a full team, if they wish so." Mr. Ahmadinejad last visited the United Nations last year.
The speculation, however, was enough to prompt sharp questions from reporters to the press spokesman of Secretary-General Annan about whether a precedent existed for America denying a visa to a president visiting the General Assembly. The spokesman replied that he knew of no such precedent.
Perhaps the two can debate individual rights as well -I'm confident Iran would fare well in that category.
The debate or potential debate whether or not it happens is not what is really going on. Iran is doing this to insult President Bush and America in general, because he knows we are weakened by commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan, by increasing global constraints, and by public opinion of the use of force. Iranian President Adolf is using our built in restraints of a free capitalistic democracy to spit in our face.
