From The Las Vegas Sun:
State and federal officials are investigating a letter received by some Southern California Hispanics that says it is a crime for immigrants to vote and tells them they could be jailed or deported if they go to the polls next month.
What this means is it is illegal for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS or non-citizens to vote, which it is, but let’s not going to go there.
The letter, written in Spanish, tells recipients: “You are advised that if your residence in this country is illegal or you are an immigrant, voting in a federal election is a crime that could result in jail time.”
The truth is that immigrants who become naturalized citizens can legally register to vote.
A Naturalized citizen is a citizen, not an immigrant. Citizens now they have a right and duty to vote.
However, the P.C. Police are in motion…
In a letter Tuesday to state Attorney General Bill Lockyer, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called the letters “racist” and “despicable,” and argued the perpetrators should be tried for a hate crime.
Lockyer spokesman Nathan Barankin said the letter was “something we are investigating aggressively right now.” He said the sender could be charged with a felony and receive up to three years in state prison.
The FBI’s criminal division in Los Angeles obtained a copy of the letter Tuesday and was reviewing it, said Special Agent Kenneth Smith, a bureau spokesman.
Why send something like this?” said state Sen. Gloria Romero, D-Los Angeles. “The intention is clearly to shed fear and intimidation, and ultimately suppress a vote that is critical in the elections.”
John Trasvina, interim president and general counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, suggested the letter might have a backlash effect.
“A lot of people will get angered by this and say, ‘No you can’t take away my right to vote,’” said Trasvina.
I do not know why they used the term immigrant, other than that is how the PRESS refers to ILLEGAL ALIENS. This is a direct result of Pro-illegal groups going around registering illegal aliens to vote. That is the story you will not get from WaPo.
I wish we would ensure that everyone who votes is who they say they are and a citizen; unfortunately that is not going to happen in this election.
Do you think someone who sent this letter should be prosecuted for telling the truth? A naturalized citizen would know it does not apply to them.
Hey Schwarzenegger, you are a real disappointment. You believe in hate crime legislation? Hate crime legislation is bigotry in and of it self. Here is another question, what law was broken here?
I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want ILLEGAL ALIENS voting in my elections. I don’t want aliens voting in my elections.
