The Mark Foley scandal has just taken a dramatic turn.
First we have the damning report from ABC News:The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail [actually it was IM] correspondence.
Then an intuitive blogger, finds out this same page was acutally 18 at the time.
Now, according to Drudge, the whole IM converstation was a prank:
...Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats. Now that Foley's behavior is all over the news, it will be interesting to see how the mainstream media, especially ABC who was highly inaccurate, covers these new revelations.
So now, Foley's gayness is seemingly the only thing on trial here.
I'll share the blame, I was dumb enough to trust ABC News and called Foley a worthless hypocrite. Foley may very well be a worthless hypocrite, but now there is no firm ground to stand on to claim that.
Something's going on in the Democratic leadership. I wouldn't put this past them, for the chances of gaining the House and potentially the Senate must have warranted desperation, hence the willingness to spread malicious half-truths.
The shoddy reporting shouldn't go unpunished either, ABC News needs to publicly issue a correction on prime time television with an apology to Mark Foley immediately after. But my chances of winning the lottery are better than that, and I don't even play.
