Iran said today that they will be conducting war games in the Gulf, just after the U.S. conducted navy exercises in the same region.
According to this AP story, the codename for the maneuvers will be called "Great Prophet":Iranian state television quoted the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi, as saying the 10-day maneuvers, named "Great Prophet," would take place in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman, beginning Thursday."The war games are aimed at demonstrating the deterrent power of the guards against possible threats," Safavi said.Safavi stressed the drills were not a threat to neighboring countries, saying: "Our neighbors are our friends. The guards just want to prove that they ready to resist in any threatening situation."
Perhaps, but this is more about Iran's ego than it is about deterring military action against them. Everything they view as hypocritical that the U.S. does, they will do themselves or complain about how they can't do it.
It's about testing the supposed legitimacy of the international community; that is, who should have nukes, sit at the UNSC, and conduct military exercises if they are denied to Iran?
They will push the envelope as far as they can. Even though they are lunatics, they are not dumb enough to commit suicide. What's that? Hypocrisy? Oh no, not Iran.
Also interesting was the mention that Russia continues to defend its sale of missiles to Iran.
