The best post marking our 4 years in Iraq, in my opinion, is the one by Gerard Van der Leun at American Digest.
It's almost a tear jerker, because you know the fragility of our strength. I'd quote some, but it wouldn't do justice. Read it.

WOW. REALLY GOOD STUFF. GOD I HOPE IT DOESN'T COME TRUE. I HAVE SEVERAL TOURS OVER THERE AND I WOULD PREFER THAT MY SONS AND DAUGHTER NOT HAVE TO GO BACK IN ABOUT 10 YEARS BECAUSE THE KNUCKLEHEADS MENTIONED IN THE ESSAY ARE TRYING TO WIN THE COUNTRY OVER WITH THEIR UNBELIEVABLE STUPIDITY IN THINKNG THAT IF YOU HUG SOME ONE IT WILL BE ALL BETTER. HISTORY SHOWS US THAT SOME COUNTRIES, PEOPLES AND IDEALISMS WON'T AND WILL NEVER CONFORM TO OUR STANDARDS, BUT WE NEVER LEARN.
